Roll back the pages of time for one glorious week; recapture the pomp and pageantry of a regal past in royal style.  Step aboard the Palace of Wheels, each carriage decorated in the distinctive style of a regional Maharaja.  See the colorful state of Rajasthan in all its splendor and the fragile loveliness of the Taj Mahal at Agra.  This fully air-conditioned train includes two restaurant coaches, a bar coach, and a library.  Each bedroom has amenities you would expect—including suite bath and shower with hot/cold water.

Palace on Wheels

Day 1.  TUE—ARRIVE IN DELHI

Traditional welcome on arrival and meeting assistance at the airport.  Transfer to hotel.

 

Day 2.  WED—DELHI

Check in to the train at 3:00 pm.  Dinner onboard the Palace on Wheels.  Depart for Jaipur.

 

Day 3.  THU—JAIPUR

Caparisoned elephants and strains of the shehnai will greet and welcome you to the Pink City of Jaipur.  Discover Hawa Mahal, City Palace museum, Nahargarh Fort, and Amber Fort, the silent sentinels of a glorious era.

 

Day 4.  FRI—JAISALMER

Arrive at the 12th century city of Jaisalmer dominated by its sandstone fort of 99 bastions.  Visit the exquisitely carved Havelis and palaces.  Experience the famed camel ride, and later enjoy a feast of Rajasthani cuisine accompanied by music and folk dancing.

 

Day 5.  SAT—JODHPUR

The Mehrangarh Fort is omnipresent in the 15th century city.  Visit this magnificent fort and Jaswant Thada, a royal cenotaph close by.

 

Day 6.  SUN—SAWAI MADHOPUR TIGER RESERVE / CHITTORGARH

Welcome to the tranquility of Sawai Madhopur and the beautiful 10th century Ranthambhor fort surrounded by the wildlife park.  Continue on to Chittorgarh.  Images of love and valor; scars of battle lost and battle won . . . .  Thrice besieged, the fortified bastion of Chittorgarh is all this and more.

 

Day 7.  MON—UDAIPUR

Proceed to Udaipur, the city of lakes, palaces and gardens, temples and forts this morning.  Visit the City Palace in all its ancient glory, the residence of the Maharajas of Udaipur.

 

Day 8.  TUE—BHARATPUR BIRD SANCTUARY / FATEHPUR SIKRI / AGRA / DELHI

A wonderland for birds, visit the renowned Keoladeo Ghana National Park at Bharatpur.  Then visit Fatehpur Sikri en route to Agra.  Continue to one of the most beautiful monuments ever conceived:  the Taj Mahal.

 

Day 9.  WED—DEPART DELHI

Arrive in Delhi.  In the evening transfer to international airport for flight home.
